How Can the Later-2017 Release of 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Get Any Better? With a Few Exciting Upgrades
— Volkswagen (@Volkswagen) February 17, 2017
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is almost here. And with a design heavily modified from the European version, it looks to be well worth the wait for the American SUV segment.
Volkswagen began with a new MQB chassis, making 2018 Tiguan longer and lower, which will not only conveniently lower the lift-in height for Tiguan’s rear hatch, but will also expand the current model by 10.7 inches, and add 4.4 inches to the wheelbase. This will translate to some serious cargo capacity, with Tiguan’s set of third-row seats, standard on front-wheel-drive models and available optionally on 4Motion-equipped all-wheel-drive models, joining with a second-row seat that splits 40:20:40 and slides forward and back by up to seven inches.
This is not to say that such a design change won’t do much for the under-hood experience. The effect on Tiguan’s redesigned 184-horsepower, 221 lb.-ft.-torque, 2.0L turbocharged direct-injected TSI engine, as well as on its fuel-economical eight-speed automatic transmission, will be palpable. And the SUV will have the eye-catching physique to complement, replete with a bold front grille, standard roof rails, dual exhaust tips and choice of four wheel styles. LED daytime running lights, standard LED taillights and optional LED headlights promise to both turn heads and brightly illuminate your way.
Volkswagen also redesigned Tiguan with respectable safety chops. Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) with Pedestrian Monitoring, a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), and Adaptive Cruise Control work in concert to help keep Tiguan both on track and aware of the vehicles and objects around it. And a fifth-generation 4Motion with Active Control all-wheel-drive system showcasing On-Road, Snow, Off-Road and Off-Road custom modes will make Tiguan a force with which to be reckoned across rough terrain and during bad weather.
