Volkswagen Aims to Bring Back Electric Version of Microbus

May 9th, 2017 by

Few cars have reached cult status quite like the Volkswagen Microbus. And even today, about 40 years after sales stopped, the Bus still has a lengthy following among enthusiasts and Volkswagen fans.

Volkswagen is undergoing the largest transformation in its history. Electric vehicles are tomorrow’s transport needs, and Volkswagen thinks it could eventually lead to a future revival of the Microbus—but not the Microbus known for hippie festivals and the peace and love era. Volkswagen is working on a whole new concept in the form of the I.D. Buzz.

“This is something only Volkswagen can do in such an iconic way,” said Klaus Bischoff, head of Volkswagen Design. “Our aim was to come up with something that’s likable, which would touch the heritage of the brand.”
